How to Choose LED Downlights for Your Market: A Buyer's Guide to Specs, Certifications and 3CCT Options

When buyers source LED downlights from China, the hardest part is rarely the price negotiation. It is knowing which specifications actually matter for your market, which certifications unlock the shelf, and which design choices will quietly save you money across a full container load. This guide walks through the questions we hear most from importers, wholesalers and building-material chains across Europe, Australia, the Middle East and Korea — using the downlights we actually build at Enshine.

Start With the Numbers That Matter

Before comparing suppliers, pin down four parameters. They determine whether a downlight will pass your market's expectations and fit your customers' ceilings.

  • Wattage range: our recessed downlights cover 5W to 24W. The 8W and 10W models (YX-DLC) are the workhorses for residential and office projects; the smart series extends up to 24W for larger rooms and retail spaces.

  • Cutout size: our standard recessed models use a 90mm cutout (3.5 inch), which matches the most common ceiling openings in Europe and Australia. Confirm your market's standard before ordering tooling.

  • Power factor: PF > 0.9 across our recessed range. Low PF fixtures can fail utility requirements and cause flicker complaints.

  • CRI: ≥80 as standard, with CRI ≥90 available on request — worth specifying for hotels, retail displays and showrooms where color rendering sells the space.

One more spec buyers often overlook: the driver input range. Our downlights run on AC 90–265V, so a single SKU tolerates unstable grids in the Middle East as well as stable European mains.

Why 3CCT Saves You Inventory Money

Most of our downlights offer 3CCT switching — 3000K, 4000K and 6500K selectable on the fixture. For a distributor, this is not a gimmick. It means one SKU serves warm-white residential customers, neutral-white office projects and cool-white commercial fitouts. Instead of stocking three color variants per wattage, you stock one and let the installer flip a switch.

Across a 4-SKU wattage lineup, 3CCT can cut your downlight inventory from twelve variants to four. That is fewer containers tied up in slow-moving color temperatures, and fewer stockouts when one color sells faster than forecast.

Driver Choices: SMD/COB vs DOB

Two driver architectures dominate the downlight market, and the right choice depends on your price point and service model.

  • Separate driver with SMD or COB chips: the traditional approach, used in our YX-DLC series (SMD or COB optional). Easier to service — replace the driver, keep the fixture. Preferred where electricians expect field repairs and where dimming compatibility (such as Triac dimming on our 10W SMD model) matters.

  • DOB (Driver on Board): the driver circuit sits directly on the LED board, as in our 3CCT DIP DOB downlight. Fewer components, lighter fixture, lower BOM cost, and the plastic housing doubles as the heat sink. This is the cost-optimized choice for high-volume residential programs.

If your market demands dimming, confirm the protocol first — our 10W SMD model supports Triac dimming, which suits retrofit markets with existing wall dimmers.

Certifications and Market Access

Certification is where many first-time importers get stuck. Match the certificate to the destination before you order:

  • Australia / New Zealand: SAA approval. Our YX-DLC ships with a 100cm Australian-standard plug line as standard.

  • Europe: CE and RoHS; CB certificate available to support national schemes. European plug lines can be customized.

  • North America: FCC compliance on relevant models.

Ask any prospective supplier for certificate copies with matching model numbers — not just a logo wall. All of the above are held on our recessed downlight range; we can provide documents with your inquiry.

A Market-Specific Case: Korea's Iron Housing and Three-Wire Standard

Markets differ in ways spec sheets don't always show. Korea is a good example: local practice favors iron housings and a three-wire safety design. Our YX-DLA-D iron recessed downlight was developed specifically for this market — wide wattage options, metal housing, three-wire wiring for safety. If you distribute in Korea, sourcing a generic European-spec downlight will cost you rework; sourcing the right housing from the start costs nothing extra.

Housing material is a real decision point elsewhere too. Our plastic-housing models (YX-DLA-C gimbal, 3CCT DOB) keep weight and cost down, while the 360° adjustable gimbal on the YX-DLA-C lets installers aim light at artwork or shelving — a feature that sells in hospitality and retail fitouts.

What Our Factory Does Behind the Price

Enshine has manufactured LED lighting since 2006, with over 300 staff and 20 years of OEM/ODM experience at our Hu'an, Fujian facility. We hold ISO 9001 certification and run our own in-house laboratories: integrating sphere and light distribution testing, high-temperature aging, salt spray, IP ingress protection, surge and EMI testing, and spectral colorimetric analysis.

For buyers, this means two things: samples can be tested against your spec before shipment, and custom requirements — CRI ≥90, European plug lines, private labeling — go through a documented process rather than a verbal promise.

Before You Send an RFQ

The inquiries we can quote fastest contain this information:

  • Target market(s) — this determines certification and plug type

  • Wattage and cutout size, or the existing fixture you are replacing

  • Color temperature strategy: fixed CCT or 3CCT

  • Driver preference: separate driver (SMD/COB) or DOB

  • Housing material preference and any dimming requirement

  • Estimated annual volume and first order quantity

Send these with your inquiry and our team will respond with matching models, certification documents and a quotation. For current MOQ, lead time and pricing, contact Enshine Lighting directly.
